Setting Sun and Winter Forest
Oil on linen panel
40 x 30 inches
Private Collection
The idea for this painting came from sketches I made near Crested Butte, Colorado. The thermometer dropped dramatically as the forest obscured the sun, and I had to sketch quickly before my hands became too numb inside their layers of gloves. I wanted to capture the moment when the last warmth of the day still lingered with the quickly sinking brightness of the sun.
